How Do You Deal With Disappointments?

A disappointment can be terrible. However, it is important to deal with disappointment in the right way. This can help us mature.

How do you deal with disappointment? Ultimately, disappointment makes us feel awful and also causes you to make decisions that are not beneficial to you. 

It hurts when you are pushed aside by a person you trusted. But… what if this was the best option?

We tend to blame others when they disappoint us. And if they break the trust we had in them.

However, we must learn to  understand how disappointments can help us grow. 

Disappointments can reveal unreasonable expectations

We all have expectations. However, it is wrong to give your expectations the upper hand. Expecting to get that new job, or assuming that someone is going to call you, can create a sense of disappointment. What if this doesn’t happen?

We assume that everyone around us reacts the way they are supposed to react. We believe that when someone makes a promise, they should keep their word.

Nevertheless, the friend who didn’t call you may have forgotten this because he had other things on his mind. Or the job you didn’t get was given to someone who was a better fit for the position.

When things don’t go the way you expected, you may feel sad or disappointed.

Unrealistic expectations can lead to many unhappy moments. Expecting things to go exactly as promised can lead to disappointment.

It is impossible for others to react exactly the way you want them to. We are all different people after all! There are no guarantees. Life is full of unexpected surprises.

Promising yourself that things will go exactly as you planned will only guarantee pain and suffering! 

Disappointments are a reminder to stop expecting so much from others and yourself. Do not create false illusions and accept what is to come.

Do you give yourself too much to others?

The majority of disappointing situations arise during relationships. After all, low self-esteem can make you rely more on others for emotional support.

Suddenly you are looking for permission from others. For example, you only feel happy if the people around you think so. Or you depend on what the people who are important to you think how you should feel.

When a friend cancels, you feel sad about this. When someone changes plans at the last minute, you can find yourself on a roller coaster of emotions.

Your self-esteem can become so low that you seek refuge emotionally with other people. You expect them to give you the permission you need to feel happy. Even when you are probably the one who makes them feel good. Because of this, you give too much of yourself to them.

It is a fact that disappointments are a part of your life. That fact  tells you to stop thinking about others. You need to start focusing more on yourself. 

Stop looking for outside approval. Stop feeding your low self-esteem. It’s time to put yourself first. And to find happiness in yourself. 

If there is  one thing that is going to give you a lot of pain and sorrow, it is believing that others are the key to your happiness. 

Life is full of lessons

We only learn from things that hurt us. When it hurts so much, we have no choice. Then we must recover from that which has caused us so much damage.

This is how disappointments, suffering and emotional pain can help us. They can help you realize that there are problems that need to be solved. The people around you should not change, but you should change. 

Life is full of countless lessons. Sometimes guilt takes over and sometimes we play the victim.

But all this will not solve our problems. Your problems will only end  when you treat yourself right. If you’re going to love yourself. And when you stop being so hard on yourself and start putting yourself first. 

Even though this can be very difficult, the moment when you have had enough of disappointments will surely come. You will realize that you cannot use the negativity affecting you.

Only by making the same mistakes over and over again can we learn things. And they eventually overcome.
